Kitchen Manager

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand new restaurant, hotel and mountain bike basecamp, is looking for a culinary leader to help us grow to more meal periods. Our indoor/outdoor restaurant has been full every night with stellar reviews on food and service.  If you would like to be part of unrolling one of Vermont’s most exciting new culinary offerings, this could be the position for you. You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest who have set out on this new venture together. 

As KM, you will oversee the day-to-day culinary operations of Madbush Falls with Executive Chef Cody Pratt. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, strong leadership skills, and masterful ops at very station in the kitchen. You will be responsible for maintaining the restaurant’s par stock, assisting in interviewing and hiring, assisting in menu item creation and standardization, staff meal planning, daily food preparation and delegation, as well as supervising kitchen staff to ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards. 

This is a “lead by example” position. You will be responsible for preparing food according to our brand new recipes that celebrate Vermont and have a hand in creating them too. You’ll help our active clientele fuel up before and after big days outdoors, working in a brand-new kitchen built to crank volume. You’ll help maintain a clean and organized kitchen and work together to ensure that all orders are delivered to customers in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring that food is prepared to the highest quality and standard.
  • Develop and implement new menus, recipes, and techniques to keep the restaurant fresh and innovative.
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring that they are properly trained on food preparation techniques, safety, and sanitation procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure that all ingredients and supplies are ordered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Assist in managing food costs and labor expenses to maintain GOP.
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and functioning at optimal levels, reporting issues to the Executive Chef.
  • Conduct regular food quality checks to ensure that all dishes meet the restaurant’s standards.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef to develop and execute strategies to improve the restaurant’s profitability and overall performance.
  • Collaborate with the Guest Service Manager, Bar Manager, and General Manager, to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chef de Cuisine, Executive Sous Chef, or similar leadership role.
  • Excellent culinary skills.
  • Passion for creating incredible food that delights and attracts customers.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to manage costs and labor expenses.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume kitchen.
  • Experience with menu planning and recipe development.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
  • Experience integrating technology into a kitchen workflow.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Culinary degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role preferred.
  • Serve safe or food safety Certification Preferred

Base Pay: $50,000-$60,000/yr

Benefits: 

  • Fully furnished housing walking distance from Madbush (across the street) in a shared 2-bedroom riverfront condo for $900/mo.
  • “Unlimited” vacation: also known as discretionary vacation. You’ll be expected to work 5 days per week, understanding that it could involve early mornings, later evenings, and weekends, and that during busy times it may be more than 5 days. In turn we will not provide a certain number of vacation days. Time off (whether an hour or a week) will be at your discretion, subject to your and our ability to run the business in your absence.

Line Cook

Introduction:

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand new Mountain Bike Basecamp, opened a 100-seat indoor-outdoor restaurant this summer. If you would like to be part of unrolling one of Vermont’s most exciting new culinary offerings, this could be the position for you. We’re looking to add to our talented, low-ego crew. Expect to find the Chef, Founder and GM in there doing dishes and prepping with you if that’s what it takes! 

You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest who are setting out on this new venture together. You will be responsible for preparing food according to our brand new recipes that celebrate Vermont. You’ll help our active clientele fuel up before and after big days outdoors, working in a brand-new kitchen built to crank volume. You’ll help maintain a clean and organized kitchen and work together to ensure that all orders are delivered to customers in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fully furnished housing walking distance from Madbush (across the street) in a shared 2-bedroom riverfront condo for $900/mo.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as a line cook or similar role in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree or certification

Bartender

Introduction

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand-new mountain biking basecamp, is looking for bartenders who love Vermont outdoors and Vermont culture.  If you’re a bartender/mixologist eager to share your excitement on Vermont beer, cocktails, biking and skiing, this could be your dream job. 

You’ll join a team of passionate leaders most recently from American Flatbread, the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest working together on an ambitious new project to provide a true basecamp for biking in Vermont: 75-seat restaurant/bar, 25-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents and a bike/ski shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, all situated smack in the middle of some of the best mountain and gravel biking in the world. 

We’ll look to you to help curate/create our beer and cocktail program and cultivate relationships with locals and visitors alike, sharing your knowledge and love of Vermont with them all. 

Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests and take orders for beverages and food.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to the restaurant’s specifications.
  • Verify guests’ identification and ensure that they are of legal drinking age.
  • Keep the bar area clean and well-stocked.
  • Process payments and handle cash and credit card transactions
  • Communicate with the kitchen and other restaurant staff to ensure timely delivery of food and drinks.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
  • Upsell and promote menu items and special offers.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment, following health and safety guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a bartender in a restaurant or bar setting

You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest working together on an ambitious new project to provide a true basecamp for biking in Vermont: 75-seat restaurant/bar, 25-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents and a bike/ski shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, all situated smack in the middle of some of the best mountain and gravel biking in the world. 


If you’re the right fit for this server job, you already know what it entails. You will have more interaction with some guests than anybody else in their entire stay. Their memories of Madbush Falls and even Vermont in general will be formed by you!

Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests in a friendly and welcoming manner, escort them to their tables, and provide menus.
  • Offer recommendations on food and beverage options, taking into account guests’ preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • Take accurate food and drink orders, using a POS system efficiently.
  • Deliver food and beverages to guests promptly and accurately, ensuring quality and presentation meet established standards.
  • Check on guests regularly to ensure satisfaction, address any concerns or requests promptly, and make suggestions for additional items.
  • Upsell menu items and promote daily specials to increase sales.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth and timely service.

Introduction:

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand-new mountain biking basecamp, is bringing Brio Coffeeworks to the Mad River Valley! We’re looking for coffee lovers to prepare and serve our favorite Vermont coffee. This position comes with training and support directly from Brio.

You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest working together on an ambitious new project to provide a true basecamp for biking in Vermont: 75-seat restaurant/bar, 25-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents and a bike/ski shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, all situated smack in the middle of some of the best mountain and gravel biking in the world.

You’ll be the first person in each morning, opening the coffee bar, setting the tone, and giving our guests their first magical experience of the day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso, cappuccino, and latte, according to established recipes and standards.
  • Ensure that all coffee beverages are prepared with consistent quality and presentation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, taking orders and answering questions about the menu.
  • Operate the cash register and handle cash and credit card transactions accurately.
  • Conduct opening procedures, including preparing and cleaning equipment, and restocking supplies.

Property Steward / Room Attendant

Introduction:

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand-new mountain biking basecamp, is looking for a lover of Vermont outdoors to help give our little slice of heaven the care it deserves.  

You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest working together on an ambitious new project to provide a true basecamp for biking in Vermont: 75-seat restaurant/bar, 25-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents and a bike/ski shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, all situated smack in the middle of some of the best mountain and gravel biking in the world. We’re situated on 20 acres with an incredible waterfall and a few dozen guest rooms. Each room has its own outdoor space, so caring for the place as a whole–indoor and outdoor–is part of the job. 


You’ll make sure rooms are clean and ready for guest arrival. This role also includes taking ownership of some exterior areas of the property to ensure we present the amazing grounds of Madbush Falls in the best way we can for our guests. You will  be setting the stage for guests who have no idea a place this beautiful exists!  

The day-to-day:

  • Quickly and efficiently clean guest rooms, tents, cabins, public areas and bathrooms to meet standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance.
  • Maintains interior and exterior guest facing areas to ensure the property presents itself as clean and welcoming.
  • Perform tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, removing trash, changing bed linens, and any other cleaning procedures necessary in the hotel.  Exterior tasks include, but are not limited to general upkeep and cleanliness of guest walkways & perennial beds
  • Maintaining bathhouse cleanliness and restocking
  • Occasionally performing laundry duties ( as needed)
  • Provide a high level of service when engaging with guests, using problem-solving, attention to detail.
  • Ensure guest safety by following proper repair reporting procedures
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested

Guest Concierge & Host

Madbush Falls, Vermont’s brand-new mountain biking basecamp, is looking for a lover of Vermont outdoors and Vermont culture who wants to help blow our guests’ minds. 

You’ll join leaders from a host of other very successful Vermont businesses including the Skinny Pancake and Lawson’s Finest working together on an ambitious new project to provide a true basecamp for biking in Vermont: 75-seat restaurant/bar, 25-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents and a bike/ski shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, all situated smack in the middle of some of the best mountain and gravel biking in the world.  

This is a prominent, front facing position. It’s a blended role that provides support to both the hotel & restaurant. You’ll be the first impression & primary contact for hotel guests entering the establishment. This position is perfect for someone who loves customer service, interacting with people, and thrives in a fast paced environment. You’ll be the first impression many guests have not only of Madbush Falls but also of the Mad River Valley and Vermont as a whole.   If you land this role… YOU are the face of Madbush Falls.

The Day to Day:

  • Greet incoming guests with a warm welcome and escort them to their table or room.
  • Assist with hotel functions including check-in, check-out, or other hotel guest needs such as Property Management System operations.
  • Manage restaurant waitlist, ensuring accurate and efficient seating.
  • Communicate with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized front-of-house area, and assist in dining room as needed.
  • Answer phone calls, and address customer inquiries.
  • Monitor the dining room for seating availability, table turnover, and cleanliness.
  • Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to requests for assistance.
  • Provide information about the menu, property amenities, and local knowledge  to enhance the guest experience. 

A Great Candidate:
